Our blood is certainly one of the most important elements in our body to keep us alive. This may appear in one single color but it is loaded with essential chemicals and components that are needed to make it function normally. We all become apprehensive if we or our loved ones are diagnosed with abnormal blood condition, because we know how important our blood to the body is.
Moving on, it is also essential to be equipped with information about the different blood groups not only to know what our blood type is but also to be aware of the benefits of it especially if we want to donate some of our blood to those who need it.
There are different blood groups because of the presence or absence of particular protein molecules called the antigens and the antibodies. Antigens are those located on the surface of red blood cells or RBC while the antibodies are those in the blood plasma. We all differ in blood groups or blood type because of the different combinations of the said protein molecules. Our blood group is based on what we have acquired or inherited from our parents.
Donating blood to patients is easy, but the difficult one is choosing the compatible one to avoid blood poisoning. Since we all have different amount of protein molecules in our blood, precise blood typing tests are required before initiating blood transfusion.
Here are the four major blood groups/types:
1. Type A – person who has a blood type A have an A antigens on his red blood cells and B in the blood plasma. This individual can give blood to those who have type A and AB and can receive blood from those who have blood types A and O.
2. Type B – person who has a type B blood have B antigens on his red blood cells and an A antibodies in his blood plasma. He can give blood to those who have types B and AB, and receive blood from donors who have blood type B and O.
3. Type O – a person with type O blood has neither A nor B antigens on the red blood cells, but have A and B antibodies in the blood plasma. He can give blood to those who have types A, B, AB, and O and can receive from donors who have type O only.
4. Type AB – a person with type AB blood has both A and B antigens on the red blood cells but no A or B antibodies in blood plasma. He can donate blood to those who have type AB and receive from donors with blood types AB, A, B, and O.

Having a healthy lifestyle makes our blood to function well. We can do this by:
§ Eating healthy foods especially those green leafy ones that are rich in iron.
§ Refraining from cigarette smoking for it will greatly ruin our blood.
§ Maintaining a normal blood pressure, and blood sugar content
§ Visiting your personal health provider regularly.

Reflexology: Healing-Touch to Senses

Many theories but the approach we look at the nervous system as the explanation of the working of reflexology is pressure sensors in the feet and hands are a part of the body's reflexive response that makes possible reaction to danger. It is a zone therapy that is practise of massaging, squeezing, or pushing on parts of the feet, the hands and the ears. Feet ready to flee and hands ready to fight communicate with the body's internal organs to make possible wither eventuality. This encourages a beneficial effect on other parts of the body to improve general health. The sudden adrenal surge that enables a person to lift a car is an example of this reaction. Reflexology taps into this reflex network, providing an exercise of pressure sensors and thus the internal organs to which they are inextricably tied.

Traditionally, Egypt way back to 2330 BCE, China 2704 BCE and Japan 690 CE points to ancient reflexology systems. The concept of treatment emerged in the 19th century based on research into the nervous system and reflex. Round the world and throughout history, the reflexology has been rediscovered and reinstated as a health practice time and time again by peoples around the globe seeking to deal with health concerns. While no direct evidence from ancient times has been discovered, the practice of foot and hand work in a variety of cultures, belief systems and historical periods speaks to reflexology for health as a universal concept.

It is easy to do reflexology along with doing other activities. Though it can be done practically anytime and anywhere, there should be consistency in tricks. This requires self help and family help as well as the guidance of practitioners. The practitioner can give you a quality signal to break up the pattern of stress but you and your family can provide the quantity to help break it up the stress patterns in your feet and hands. There are many impressive results across the country. Their secret seems to be that they do reflexology once a day for six days in two week segments. Then they review the results and do more segments as necessary.

Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands which correspond to every part of the body. Through the application of pressure on particular areas of the hands or feet, reflexology is said to have benefits such as the relaxation of tension, improvement of circulation and promoting the natural function of the related area in the body, though there is some scepticism about such claims. Nonetheless, reflexology can release endorphins, and is pleasurable.

Put a foot roller under your desk or work your hands while waiting for the kids at school. Five minutes a day is worth more than an hour once in awhile. Be creative but be consistent. A well-conducted consultation enhances the treatment the personal follows reflexology, as a professional the practitioner understands his approach to treatment is of great importance and the treatment itself is part of the wider therapeutic encounter.

Reflexology is a comprehensive process available to human as the means of bringing the body back from a state of inability to a state of health. Five minutes a day is worth more than an hour once in awhile.

What are the Risks of Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus)?

Siberian ginseng is also known as eleuthero, which has been used in the eastern countries including Russia and China for many centuries. Siberian ginseng is related to the Asian ginseng and American ginseng, which has a different active chemical ingredient. It is believed to be effective for enhancing overall health, longevity, vigor restoration and stimulation of appetite as well as the memory. Russians used Siberian ginseng for adapting to stress and enhancing productivity.

In the Chinese medicine, Siberian ginseng is prized for the beneficial effects it brings to the ‘qi’ and the capacity to cure the ‘yang’ deficiency of the kidney and the spleen. Siberian ginseng is also known to be an adaptogen similar to panax ginseng. It is helpful for stress as well as for the balance of the body. Adaptogen can decrease the pressure of the blood for people who have high blood pressure. On the other hand, it can also increase the pressure of the blood for people who have low blood pressure. Eleutherosides is an active ingredient present in Siberian ginseng that helps in enhancing stamina and stimulating the immune system of the body.

Most of the scientific research regarding Siberian ginseng was performed in Russia wherein researches were supported the use of the herb in strengthening the immune system and maintaining the health rather than treating certain diseases and disorders. Siberian ginseng may be helpful for the body in dealing with mental and physical stress, cold, heat, viruses, chemicals, bacteria, physical fatigue noise, pollution and intense working conditions. As the immune system strengthens, several illnesses are prevented.

Different studies prove that the use of Siberian ginseng is beneficial for patients with colds and flu. It is also effective for restoring and maintaining mental alertness. As of physical performance, Siberian ginseng can enhance stamina and improve muscle strength. Ancient Chinese medicine used Siberian ginseng in treating sexual dysfunction and enhancing reproduction. Siberian ginseng is also helpful for elderly people to enhance the quality of life. It improves mental and social function as well.

Supplements with Siberian ginseng are available in the market. The roots of the ginseng have different components including eleutherosides and polysaccharides that are effective in improving the immune system and lowering the levels of blood sugar. You can get Siberian ginseng supplements as solid extracts, powders, tablets, capsules and liquid extracts. Dried roots of ginseng are also available, which are usually used for tea.

Siberian ginseng is not recommended for children. In addition, if you are going to take supplements with Siberian ginseng or other herbs, make sure that you know the other ingredients included in the product. It is always safe to ask your doctor about the benefits of herbs and supplements in your health.

Bear in mind that herbs contain certain components that can cause side effects and may interact with other supplements, medications and herbs. Be cautious in taking herbal supplements and make sure that you are under doctor’s supervision.

People who have obstructive sleep apnea, high blood pressure, narcolepsy as well as pregnant and lactating women must avoid taking Siberian ginseng. Some common side effects of Siberian ginseng include insomnia, high blood pressure, headache, drowsiness, nosebleed and irregular heart rhythm.

Why Should I Not Take Saint John's Wort?

Saint John's Wort:
One of the most popular natural supplements effective in treating depression is St. John’s Wort. This herb is proven effective for anxiety, insomnia and depression as well as in strengthening the immune system and relieving muscle pains. Clinical tests prove that St. John’s Wort can cure mild to severe depression and has the same effects with Zoloft and Paxil. St. John’s Wort has natural properties that have lesser side effects compared to prescription medications. Antidepressant medications usually cause various side effects such as fatigue, dizziness weight gain and lack of sex drive. Therefore, if you want a more natural treatment, St. John’s Wort is the best choice.

Researches in Europe and the United States regarding the benefits of St. John’s Wort have suggested that it is more useful than sugar pill or placebo and it is as effective as TCAs or tricyclic antidepressants in treating mild to moderate depression.

Besides benefits for depression, St. John’s Worts also can also reduce symptoms of anxiety. However, this study is in combination of St. John’s Wort with valerian so the positive effects may be caused by valerian and not entirely because of St. John’s Wort. With this fact, further researches are still needed to know the benefits of St. John’s Wort for anxiety disorders. In addition, there is no clear evidence regarding the effects of St. John’s Wort for severe depression.

Some cases report that St. John’s Wort has positive effects in patients who are experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD. However, there is no sufficient proof to recommend the drug due to lack of extensive research.

Benefits of St. John’s Wort in conditions such as pre-menopausal symptoms and premenstrual syndrome or PMS are still needed to be studied. It is the same with Seasonal Affective disorder or SAD, Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV and social phobia.

Health benefits that are based on scientific theories and traditions regarding St. John’s Wort still require advance studies. Most of the conditions are serious and must be examined by a doctor. Some of these conditions include alcoholism, abdominal discomfort, antiviral, allergies and anti-inflammatory as well as bacterial skin infections, athletic performance enhancement, bruises, bedwetting and burns. Others also include cancer, dental pain, chronic ear infections, diuretic, diarrhea, virus infection and fatigue.

Though St. John’s Wort has various health benefits, you have to be aware that it still has side effects including nausea, decreased sex drive and dizziness. Remember that St. John’s Wort is not recommended for everybody. People who have bipolar disorder must not take the medication. It is necessary to consult a doctor before taking St. John’s Wort or other supplements, which can be dangerous for patients with bipolar disorder due to lack of mood stabilizer that may cause dysphoric mania.

Some people believe that this supplement has low hyperforin content, making it ineffective for depression treatment. Therefore, in choosing a St. John’s supplement, make sure that it contains at least three to five percent of hyperforin. In addition, the effects of this supplement can be felt after six weeks of usage so you need to be a bit patient.
Be careful in taking St. John’s Worts because over dosage may cause photosensitivity for some people and interfere with iron and other mineral absorption.

or those suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia, there may still be hope. One plant extract that is said to hold a promise for a cure is the Saw Palmetto extract. The Saw Palmetto extract is from the fruit Serenoa repens, which is the Saw Palmetto fruit. The extract, apparently, is the one that carries the healing properties of the plant. The extract is highly enriched with fatty acids and phytosterols.
Just looking at what comprises the extract, we can already derive some of its properties. For instance, phytosterols are said to have cholesterol-lowering properties. Still, one of the cautions when it comes to phytosterols is the fact that lowering cholesterols does not automatically translate to better health. However, for those who have health concerns such as atherosclerosis and plaques that could cause heart attacks and strokes, then the phytosterol component in Saw Palmetto extract can help.
Saw Palmetto is said to have already been used by the Native Americans not only as food but also as treatment for various reproductive system and urinary problems. Other health conditions that the Saw Palmetto extract was used for included asthenia or weakness, and various types of cough wherein the extract was used as an expectorant. As for the condition among men known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, research is still being done to see whether Saw Palmetto extract can actually help with this condition. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a condition wherein a man’s prostate glands swell and blocks the urinary tract. More clinical trials have to be made however, although in vitro studies show that the Saw Palmetto extract has properties that may prove useful against prostate cancer cells or which could also be useful in reducing prostatitis. In addition to this, Saw Palmetto is looked upon as a good herbal medicine because it is produced in great quantities by a Saw Palmetto adult plant.
Although Saw Palmetto extract has herbal or medicinal properties, there are also certain contraindications that are being looked out for. One of these is the possible hormonal interference that the Saw Palmetto extract may cause, thus making it non-advisable for use by pregnant and lactating women. It is also not recommended for small children. It is said that men who have also taken drugs or substance containing the Saw Palmetto extract may also experience mild nausea, reduced libido and erectile dysfunction although there seems to be no evidence directly linking the Saw Palmetto extract to the occurrence of these conditions. In fact, some sources would even say that Saw Palmetto extract can act as a mild aphrodisiac.
It is still advisable that one get a good medical advice when trying out for products that contain Saw Palmetto extract. Apparently, it is considered generally safe although the fact remains that, as a medicinal herb, people will and can have various reactions to it. The best thing to do is still to do some more research and find out if Saw Palmetto extract is the medicinal herb that is suited for you.

Photography - Digital photography has become a branch of visual arts. All you need here is to make a boring still life image into a lively and meaningful picture. With the right combination of light and camera angles, you can have the knack with photography. To improve your photography techniques here are some tips for you:
1. Photography can be as easy as 1-2-3 as it may seem, but having quality photos that projects something or photos that can be an art itself takes time to learn. Read as many as useful photography techniques as you can because you can never have enough of them.
2. Use the natural light on your photographs. Natural light brings out the natural colors and details of the image. The ultimate source of natural light is the sun. However, make sure that you don’t take shots when the sun is directly over the camera because it may blur your photos.
3. Find the perfect camera angle for better photographs. The position of the camera plays an important role in the field of photography. Taking pictures at different angles may bring out the perfect shot you are looking for.
4. Get rid of red eyes and blurry images. Red eyes are caused by the person looking directly at the lens while the shot is being made. You can avoid this by telling the subject to try not looking at the lens. Blurry images are caused by shaky hands or moving objects. You can make use of the tripod to get clearer shots and eliminate blurred or warped mages.

Let’s talk about the SLR (Single Lens Reflex) technology first. The
SLR cameras are the first resort of serious photographers. A standard
digital camera can offer great image clarity and quality, but the SLR
which looks traditional, much like the 35 mm film camera, offers some
distinct advantages over a standard digital camera like changeable
lenses, good quality in limited light conditions and large viewfinder,
controls and faster operation.
A great plus with using an SLR camera is that it uses a viewfinder and
one has a good idea of what he is going to capture as he is effectively
looking at it through a ‘view’ finder. A number of SLR cameras ranging
from $600 to $10,000 are available in the market, with Canon and Nikon
specializing in this range of cameras. SLR basically refers to the
concept of using the same lens for viewing and taking pictures. An SLR
is larger and heavier than a normal camera and therefore is suited for
the “serious” photographer only and moreover, an SLR camera is more
expensive than a normal point and shoot camera, be it digital or film
Depending upon the type of photography you intend you indulge yourself
in, an SLR can be of the following three configurations – big lenses
and big sensor, big lenses with small sensor and small lenses with
small sensors. A big lens with big sensor SLR camera is big on budget
as well, and unless you want to capture a wide area with picture
perfect colors and clarity, you don’t need to spend a fortune on a 13
mega pixel or a 16 mega pixel camera. For the purpose of portrait
clicking, a big lens -small sensor camera for low light conditions or a
small lens small sensor camera for portrait photography in brighter
light shall suffice.
Portrait photography can broadly be classified into two wide categories
– photography in a room or darker conditions and photography in open,
or more precisely, brighter conditions. For indoor portrait
photography, you need to learn the utilization of light in order to get
the best possible picture. One can set the SLR to ISO 800, or even ISO
400 depending upon the light condition and a standard perspective lens
is good enough to capture the person (the major object) and some part
of his or her surroundings. You can also fiddle around a bit with your
lenses and replace the standard “kit” lens with 35/1.4 or 50/1.4 lens
and note down the effects of the aperture (the size, basically) on the
shutter speed ( more shutter speed allows more light) and the ISO speed
(ISO speed is related to distortion of an image when viewed in the
computer after uploading from the camera) and find out the best
combination, usually a low shutter speed and a high ISO speed offer
good end result, but it all depends on your angle and light conditions
around you. An example of using the light to perfection is by placing
the subject (the person to be clicked) along side a window allowing
indirect light and placing a white cardboard or a mirror such that the
light is reflected back on the person. You can take your pictures from
the camera with the camera placed on a tripod or you can hold it at
different angles in your hands to give the picture a slightly rugged
Portrait photography in the open spaces can again be of two types, a
singular approach, wherein only the person to be clicked is important
and you would require a small lens for that with low shutter speeds.
The second case might be when the person is needed to be shown with
respect to his surroundings and his interaction with others. This
situation is slightly tricky for a rookie as it involves the use of a
wider lens and you should know precisely what is the end picture going
to look like and whether it’ll actually be able to portray the desired
relationship or not.

Drinking Eight Glasses of Water: Is There a Suggestive Amount to Take in a Day?

What your physician would typically advise? Prescription: Drink eight glasses of water a day. This is the standard water intake that people have been accustomed to. Ask doctors about it and they would agree to the 8 glasses consumption, ask nutritionists, 8 glasses indeed, ask health conscious people, truly 8 glasses. Now, the question is, are you dutifully sticking on to the 8 glasses average? Even though information has been sufficiently circulated, the inability to conform to the norms has been a quandary all these times.
Another question to rear is, if you are drinking 8 to 12 glasses of water a day, is it possible to go beyond the standard? Since people have different body types and lifestyles, are there any indications as to how much is necessary and when to say enough? So many questions to tend to and this article will help you resolve and settle the issues.
The Importance of Water Defined
Water makes up more than 60% of the body’s mass. It aids in the avoidance of dehydration; as the body loses supply of water through the emission of liquids coming from the sweat glands, the body needs to get back the amounts of fluids to avert loss of water supply in the body. Also, water has the ability to flush away harmful substances as well as in providing adequate quantity to help the immune system function properly and do its job.
Water likewise plays a significant role in shedding those unwanted pounds as part of a diet regimen. Since water has no calorie substances, this becomes a good source of energy excluding the fats. Thus, if you are on a diet, taking in water prior to a meal will give you the feeling of being full so you will not have to consume as much as you desire.
Is 8 Glasses a Day an Adequate Amount?
According to studies, sedentary people or those individuals with inactive lifestyle and spending most of their time sitting around would need to consume 8-12 glasses a day. Then again, people with an active way of living needs to consume much more than the standard water recommendation. If you are an athlete and your day is packed with all the trainings and exercises, you probably need to consume 1-2 gallons of water a day. Since an athlete would mostly depend on a protein rich diet, the amount of water should be more than enough to prevent any forms of injury in ones body.
Are There Any Indications of the Amount of Water to Consume in a Day?
According to medical experts it is suggested that a person should drink 1-2 liters of water in a day. However, to answer the query, everything is deemed contingent, firstly, on the body type, person’s lifestyle and dependent on the actual needs of water your body requires which comes in varying mode. You also need to take into account that excessive intake leads to water intoxication or hyponatremia which creates adverse effects on a person’s brain, the pumping of blood and the muscles’ functionality. Thus, as a golden rule, everything should be consumed in moderation.

Everybody knows the effects of smoking to our body. It may hide the most serious effects because the damage is more on our internal organs, but smoking is harmful enough to destroy our extremities including our skin.
Since the skin is the organ that protects our body from foreign objects in entering our body, we have our own ways in taking care of it. But on the contrary, with so many smokers in the world, they are either unaware of the negative side effects of smoking to their skins or they just ignore all of it and stick to their vice instead.
The common side effect of smoking on our skin is wrinkles. However, we always ask the basis of it. Well, to give everyone ideas, here are some facts that we should bear in mind.
§ While smoking, the smokers protect their eyes from the cigarette smoke by partly closing their eyes. Because of this, wrinkles around the eyes may develop.
§ Puckering of mouth to puff cigarettes is also a way of acquiring wrinkles on the face. This is because of the steady muscle contractions around the mouth area.
§ Chemicals in the cigarette are very harmful to our blood – carbon monoxide in particular. This chemical helps in the formation of free radicals that causes aging.
§ Nicotine is also a chemical in cigarettes that causes our blood vessels to contract that results to a reduced oxygen supply for our tissues.
§ Scars and wounds also take longer time to heal in smokers because the production of oxygen is lessened, therefore, making the skin more vulnerable to scars.

Aside from simple wrinkles, there are more harmful effects of cigarette smoking to the human skin. These effects are merely felt by the smokers, that is why the majority of them tend to ignore it.
§ British study had revealed that smoking can make our skin thinner.
§ The smoker’s skin may appear slightly grayish
§ The toxins in a single cigarette can cause lesser production of collagen, which is an essential chemical to make our skin look young.
§ Smoking can cause skin dehydration and thus depriving it from the moisture it needs.
§ The nicotine content of cigarettes restrains the smoker’s immune system to increase the vulnerability of viral infections of the skin, warts for instance.
§ Aside from wrinkles, facial break outs are also caused by the harmful chemicals in cigarettes.
§ A chronic skin condition called psoriasis which can be damaging and painful. Experts claimed that smokers have very high risk in acquiring the said condition.

Now, with all these effects of smoking in our skin alone, anyone should forget about looking sophisticated for a moment. Some smokers think that they will look fit in the public if they smoke. But they have no idea how it will make them look older than they can imagine. The bad effects of smoking may be curable, but it is good to think that it is better to live a healthy lifestyle to prevent ourselves from sickness.

Sunday, 15 August 2010

Smoking and stress are somehow linked to each other. This is because when you ask every smoker why they smoke, one of their main reasons is to relieve their stress apart from boredom, anger and anxiety. It seems that they only give this kind of excuse for not quitting the habit.
Notice a stressed smoker when he is under pressure he smokes. When he feels like to be alone, he smokes. He puffs a cigarette when he is full enough with food. When he wants his brain to function fast, he always leans on his cigarette.
In short, smokers think that cigarette smoking is the best way to handle all their emotions. And when someone tries to make them stop from this habit, they tend to point out their excuse that smoking helps them to overcome almost everything in their lives. Sad isn’t it?
But how on earth can they say such things? Maybe with this following information, we can say that somehow they got a point.
§ If an individual feels he is pressured enough, he chooses to smoke in a room by himself. It helps them to find some time for them to think for a while
§ When he begins to light up a stick, he puffs smoke and breathe air with it just like the deep breathing that we all do when we want to calm down.
§ Smoking too can be stimulating. It is proven that when a large amount of nicotine reaches the brain of the smoker, it stimulates the brain to release relaxing chemicals. The said chemicals are also useful to fight anxiety and nervousness.

However, no matter what their excuses are, these are not the reasons why they cannot stop smoking. The real reason for it is addiction. It is because smokers think that their craving to puff a cigarette is fulfilled when they are under pressure and thus making them feel relaxed. That is the real cue for it.
Stress is not really hard to handle and smoking is not the only solution for it. There are so many ways on how to overcome it – ways that are healthier, easier and smoke-free. Consider the following tips:
§ Have yourself a relaxing massage. This is much better than the stimulating effects of nicotine. It will not only help you relax, but also it will help in improving your blood circulation of your body.
§ Deep Breathing. Everyone can do this without puffing a cigarette. Search for a place with fresh air and exercise your lungs with it.
§ Warm bath. Taking a warm bath will help your body to relax. It also helps in soothing those slightly aching muscles. A nice bath in a tub is much better. Try lighting up scented candles to calm your senses.
§ Music therapy. Soft music like instrumentals and mellow songs are also some effective ways to calm yourself down.
§ Exercise. This is not only good for your physical body but also for your emotional and mental health for it will divert you from your worries and keep your mind healthy.

The Digital Photography Slr

If you are a newbie in the world of digital imaging, the term "digital photography slr" may sound familiar. Slr stands for single-lens reflex. It has different mechanism from ordinary digital cameras. In digital photography slr, the reflex design system exposes the sensor to the light reflected on the lens and the images are previewed through the liquid crystal display (LCD) before the photographic shot is taken. The mechanism of the digicam allows its screen as its electronic viewfinder. If you opt for the digital photography slr for capturing those images, then here are some few tips as a newbie:
If you have purchased a camera with Digital Photography SLR, always keep its manual handy.
Protect your lens from UV rays, have a UV filter for each lens.
Study each of the settings of your camera with Digital Photography SLR. This will greatly help if you are aiming for a fast moving object.
A great way to learn the setting of your digital camera with SLR is to make some experiments and tryouts. For instance, try taking shots of a beautiful landscape with different settings and then compare the difference.
Always bring along the necessary accessories for your digital camera with SLR such as tripods, extra memory card and batteries wherever you go. The tripod should be used to keep the camera steady for clearer shots always. The memory card is for you to take pictures more when the memory turns low. You would not want to miss a spectacular view just because your camera runs out of memory.

What causes GAD and who suffers from it?

A certain level of anxiety is normal for most people but if you continue to worry it is impossible that you may have GAD or General Anxiety Disorder. This is a mental illness where a person will always fear the worst will take place and finds it impossible to relax. In other words, if you have been prescribed with General Anxiety Disorder, you are always worried even without any reason to be and feel tight all the time. Other symptoms of GAD are pains or aches and exhaustion without apparent cause.
Once anxiety becomes chronic or severe, this may start causing some problems with every day living or activities. GAD may linger for months as a result normal life becomes hard for affected people. This mental disorder affects 4% of most population with women as the likely victims.
Basically, worrying or anxiety is a normal reaction to a danger or threatening situation, imagined or otherwise. All people experience this during a stressful event. A bit of anxiety is normal and can even motivate a person to do his best and respond properly to certain risks.
The exact cause of GAD has not been determined yet however, physicians have identified several environmental, cultural, biological and mental factors. Furthermore, there are studies supporting that this anxiety disorder may run in the family therefore genetic associations might be involved. Certain personality types may also become more susceptible to mental disorders. Other elements may contribute to abnormal anxiety such as a stressful lifestyle and excessiveness in drug or alcohol usage. Even medical conditions like hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure and diabetes can also lead to anxiety and GAD.
GAD in severe cases can make normal living impossible for victims of this disorder because of the tendency to worry too much although there is no reason for this.
The head of clinical psychology at Watford General Hospital, John Spector once mentioned that it is normal to become anxious about certain things like taking an exam but if a person constantly feels threatened and worry about small or insignificant things that daily living becomes affected then he or she may have generalized anxiety disorder.
GAD may affect people who are in their late teens or in their early 20s but women ages thirty or forty are usually the ones who suffer most with this mental disorder.
There are various treatments and approaches for this disorder but the most successful treatment is one that combines both psychopharmacologic and psychological methods.
Prescription drugs although useful in the treatment of physical symptoms linked to chronic anxiety should be used as a treatment for a short period of time. This is so because the tendency for drug addictions runs high particularly for anti-anxiety drugs like Xanax.
Another method for GAD treatment is psychotherapy which should work directly against a person’s anxiety. Relaxation technique is a part of treatment for most anxiety disorders including GAD. In case, these are not enough to control anxiety, your physician will incorporate other treatments such as hypnotherapy which involves hypnosis to control the constant worrying.

How many people suffer from GAD?

General Anxiety Disorder or GAD has become increasingly contagious in fact about 7 million adults in the US or approximately 3% of people age 18 years old and above have been diagnosed with this mental illness. The disorder usually affects adults who are 30 years old.
In the UK, several surveys show that about two million people are affected with General Anxiety Disorder and this follows depression closely. On the other side, the World Health Organization announced that only 50% of these cases have actually been diagnosed.
Awareness of this mental disorder, prompted people to ask what should be done for those who are affected with GAD. Dr. White, an expert in mental disorder, mentioned that they initially provide information regarding GAD for people who have this. He also noticed that the patient usually struggles with this disorder for several years. Furthermore, medical experts do not recommend the use of medication for the treatment of this disorder but cognitive behaviour therapy has been highly regarded as the solution to this dilemma.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which many doctors consider as the best way to treat GAD is about recalling and analysing the thoughts of the patient. People with GAD are encouraged to evaluate his or her thoughts and perceptions about the world. Doctors foster patients to resolve their problems and challenges head on. The goal of this therapy is to modify the way people think. Furthermore, problem solving training will work for the best interest of an affected person because this gives them more control of the situation.
Relaxation methods are also ways to alleviate the symptoms of chronic worrying and breathing control techniques achieve the same thing. To distract from worrying, other activities which promote relaxation are recommended. Despite these methods, only 50% of GAD victims were able to cure their condition, according to a research while the rest develop chronic anxiety.
There is no exact reason why GAD exists however several psychologist blame this due to an unstable childhood. This disorder is not something that people should learn to tolerate or ignore because this may cause other mental disorders such as depression. This condition is too complex for people to cure by themselves hence professional help is required.
For people who think that worrying has become a habit or a preoccupation or if they easily become to tensed over petty things and started experiencing symptoms of too much anxiety then they should seek the help of a medical professional or their doctors. The earlier that the disorder is diagnosed, the more chances there are of curing this condition and getting back on your feet again.
Excessive suffering due to an anxiety disorder is not normal and should not be tolerated.
If let untreated other complications may arise such as more mental illnesses including depression, regarding physical effects, victims of GAD often experience sweating and pain from the back of the head down to the shoulders and arms. Tolerating these inconveniences are out of the question, seek medical help as soon as possible.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)?

Many people admit that they are worriers. They say this as if suggesting that the world is divided into three: the fussy people, the virtuous and the majority who are pretty laid back. If it we weren’t feeling a little worried, we probably would not be able to meet a deadline, catch a bus or pass exams however, this constant worrying over something can get out of hand.
Anxiety can really get out of control. Just look at the people who are always worried about their health, job, money or anything that comes to mind, anxiety becomes all-consuming that it interferes with their daily lives and eventually cause a mental illness otherwise known as GAD or generalized anxiety disorder.
GAD is a mental disorder that Psychologist cannot exactly define because it is so similar with the ordinary anxiety however this condition is happening abnormally and completely takes over an affected person’s life.
One of the clinical psychologists at a Glasgow Health Center said that people diagnosed with GAD are anxious whether their illness is curable or not as well as how they will be able to pay for their loans. This sounds like an ordinary anxiety except that people with GAD are anxious about their worrying.
In addition, they think about why a lot of things are on their mind and why they have no power to put a stop to it. People who have GAD are aware of what is going on and how things got out of hand however they can not do anything about this. Those who are rich continue to worry a lot about their money while men and women who are in good health ceaselessly agonize over deadly diseases. When they stop and look closer at their condition, they are aware that what they are thinking make no sense at all but they just can’t stop worrying.
Apparently, these people who are chronic worriers may have GAD and are exhibiting
symptoms of this illness. Symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder include worrying too much, headaches, tightness and pain particularly in the back of the neck, heart palpitation, exhaustion.
Normal worrying should not bring about these kinds of symptoms but for those with General Anxiety Disorder, the worrying always brings some painful questions. Moreover, physical signs like pain running from the shoulders to the arms as well as numbness, which are very similar with a heart attack may trigger huge anxiety. Restlessness, nausea, irritability, profuse sweating are other symptoms associated with GAD.
There are doctors who were able to discover that GAD patients can work normally. This means for as long as they are busy with something, they will be able to do the job but once they get home or while watching TV, the constant worrying starts again and continues even when they recline in bed.
In a nutshell, patients with GAD are no different from most people except that they worry too much. The anxiety becomes all-embracing that their lives are already affected which is not good.

Meditation Around the World

Meditation is experienced as a spiritual practice in many cultures and religions. Through it and with the help of mindfulness and concentration, the spirit should gain control of itself and reach a state of calm. In Eastern cultures, it is considered as a fundamental consciousness exercise. The desired states of consciousness are commonly described as silence, void, panoramic awareness, being one, and being in the here and now or free from any thought.
In Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism, the highest goal there is is enlightenment or reaching one's nirvana. In Christian, Islamic, and Jewish traditions, on the other hand, the goal of meditative practices is the immediate experience of the divine. In Western countries, meditation is often independent from religious or spiritual objectives, but is instead linked to psychological well-being.
The range of meditation techniques is not very clear. Techniques differ depending on their traditional or religious origin, or on the different directions or schools there are within religions, and often also on the individual teachers in these schools.
Meditation techniques can be classified into two categories, namely passive or contemplative and active. Passive meditation is practiced sitting silent, whereas the active type includes conscious movement or loud recitation (of a prayer for example).
In the Christian tradition, there are different steps to meditating and contemplating. The Path to God usually starts with the study of the scriptures and with the prayer in words either spoken or recited in the head. Then comes the representational approach, wherein one concentrates on less objects and observes them repeatedly and then leads on to recite the prayer of peace.
In mindfulness mediation, Zazen and Vipassana are the best-known passive forms of meditation from the Far East. These two forms have lots in common. For one, the meditator sits in an upright posture and respects the harmonious relationship between tension and relaxation. In many Western meditation schools, the basis of these practices is total consciousness towards the spiritual, emotional, and physical phenomenon that is happening at that moment. Furthermore, both schools teach the non-judgmental and unintentional awareness in the here and now, without clinging to thoughts, feelings, or perceptions.
Dance can, like in some Far Eastern-inspired forms of meditating, be a part of the preparation for the actual meditation. In the Oriental tradition, for example, the Dervish dance in Sufism which is a part of Islamic mysticism is a means of preparing for meditative contemplation.
Many schools use rhythmic sounds and music to facilitate meditative practices. In Christianity, the sounds used are especially chorales as taken from the Gregorian. Furthermore, praying the rosary in Christianity and reciting the mantra in Buddhism and in Hinduism have similar meditative aspects.
Regular meditation has a very calming effect and is recommended as a relaxation technique in Western medicine. The effect, in turn, which is a meditative state, is neurologically measured as a change in a person's brain waves. Lastly, scientists also listed the following components belong to the meditative process: relaxation, concentration, altered state of awareness, suspension of logical thought processes, and maintenance of a self-observing attitude.

Saving some money on eyeglasses

It is now possible to purchase quality eyeglasses for much less than retail outlets. Starting from US$8 a pair, you could save yourself lots of cash. Zenni Optical has a range of styles of eyeglasses. Zenni Optical has managed to offer for sale and supply quality brands of eyeglasses because of their low overheads. There are no middlemen, an almost non existent advertising budget and no retail overheads so the prices are low. Starting from $8 you could buy eyeglasses to suit not only your look but also every outfit you have. Really, no exageration they have a huge range of products to suit anyone. These are proper prescription glasses and there's a review article talking about it by Eric Hammer, here in full. It is a more detailed and sincere review, because he has actually been buying glasses from Zenni Optical. The glasses in my opinion are stylish and simple in design. Now, you don't have to worry about how much it would cost to get new eyeglasses after they have broken, or gone out of fashion, or having lost them somewhere like the library or anywhere else. You would just buy a new pair for almost nothing just to replace the last ones you owned.

What You Need to Know About Crohn's Disease

Crohn's disease belongs to the group of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. It is a granulomatous (characterized by granulomas or a mass of inflamed granulation tissue) inflammation in the entire gastrointestinal tract that can occur anywhere from the mouth to the anus. Usually though, it occurs in the lower small intestine and in the colon, and less in the oesophagus or the mouth. A typical characteristic of Crohn's disease is discontinuous, segmental infestation, or so-called skip lesions of the intestinal mucosa.
Crohn's disease commonly occurs among young adults. These people suffer from fatigue, pain in the lower right abdomen and (mostly bloodless) diarrhoea. Fever, severe weight loss, nausea and vomiting may also arise in some cases, although a manifestation of the disease without diarrhoea is also possible. The nature and perception of the symptoms vary from patient to patient. It is possible, for example, for someone with this ailment to experience a loss of appetite at the beginning and during the course of an inflammatory phase - also called a surge - while others experience pain and cramps throughout the lower and upper abdomen instead.
Patients with Crohn's disease often show signs of malnutrition. Since the supply of energy and essential nutrients to the body is inadequate, Crohn's disease patients may show lower supplies of protein, vitamins A, D, folate, B12 and of the trace elements zinc and iron. Following the high loss of electrolytes and fluids in the body, patients also run the risk of getting dehydrated. In finding a way to improve the patient's condition, it should be noted that there's no one diet that can be applied to all patients, every diet plan needs to be created especially for each patient.
A nutritional therapy and drug intervention system must be developed to suit every individual patient. The goal of these treatment methods should be to provide short-term control over intestinal inflammation through drug treatment, to prevent further complications, to lessen the instances of diarrhea and to improve the patient's overall well-being.
Apart from taking medicines, natural methods are also used by many to deal with CD, such as the intake of herbs and application of homoeopathy. Although these two do not provide a cure for the disease itself, they do help a lot to ease the patient's pain and can also prevent the disease (for those who have a history of Crohn's in the family but haven't been diagnosed with it). Among herbs that help reduce the risk of having Crohn's is goldenseal. It lowers the probability of bacteria sticking to the intestinal wall. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, just like green tea. Other herbs with this characteristic are slippery elm, turmeric, and wild indigo. Professional homoeopaths, on the other hand, use homeopathic therapies to treat symptoms of Crohn's. Different kinds of remedies used in such therapies are mercurius, podophyllum, and veratrum album.
Other alternatives to medicine in treating the symptoms of CD are hypnosis and other relaxation techniques. The good thing about these methods is that they can improve the patient's immune function and decrease feelings of stress and anxiety by treating the mind, without the use of any chemicals or natural agents.

Enhancing the Intellectual Development of Your Child

It is not enough to raise your child just to comply with your obligation as a parent. As a concerned parent, you should be able to look for ways in order to enhance the growth of your child in all aspects. Sending your child to school is not the answer to your rising dilemma. Raising a child to become a well-rounded individual in the future must entail your dedication and open-mindedness as a parent.

You should be ready with all the possible responsibilities and obligations you have to face when raising a child. Enhancing the intellectual capabilities of your child might be easy to say and foresee. But in fact, parenting can be a very complex and difficult task to handle. There would be times that you’ll be on the verge of being fed up especially when you are fronted with stressing situations. In order to maximize the holistic development of your child, you must strive harder to look for suitable ways to stimulate your child’s mental or intellectual development.

In line with your child’s intellectual growth and progression, giving them proper education is not that sufficient. Education must start at home. Parents should be able to amplify means to rear their child and mold them into better individuals and citizens. The initial step would be encouraging them to perform as productive, respectful and sociable human beings. This aspect might be easy to say and understand, but the actual involvement of this approach might be very skeptical. More over, encouraging them with the above aspects can be a real hindrance if they are not executed well. Disciplinary actions for your children must be properly set. When we speak of discipline, it is not necessarily laying punishments or any act of violence against a mistake of your child. This strategy is not that healthy for a growing mind. If you wish to instill fear in them, they will most likely adopt your cruel means in the generations to come.

To further enhance the intellectual well-being of your child, learn to be affectionate to them. Ask them out and have frequent family discussions if possible. If you feel that your child is bothered with something, do not hesitate to ask him or her out. In such a way, he or she will find comfort and relief in your affection through your words and actions. He or she might as well gather much strength and confidence from you. On the other way around, if you established a fearsome relationship between you and you children, they will most likely keep secrets. This situation sets up a barrier between your communication and relationship the most. Do not just rely on what the school teaches your child. You should be able to have follow-ups or follow-through with his or her problems and needs. You should also help your child in coping up with the pressures of schooling. And above all, you should allot quality time with your children and create a harmonious learning environment for them.

The Act of Forgiveness: A Key to Healthy Relationship and Happy Marriage

"He is not the man/woman I used to know", are you confronted with this statement lately? A lot of relationships specifically married couples going through a difficult time of their marriage lives would definitely resort to coming up with this kind of account as the bond begins to damage itself mainly due to an unforgiving heart.
The act of forgiving is something that most husbands and wives fail to endow with each other as pride and egoistic outlook stand in the way for absolute forgiveness. As the aphorism goes, "It is with a courageous heart for a person to ask for forgiveness yet, the one who provides pardon is considered noblest". It is easy to ask for forgiveness if you know you are the party who is at fault but it is even harder to ask for mercy if you do not commit any wrongdoing. These two have opposing circumstances yet, all roots to one thing and that is to ask and offer forgiveness.
The concept of divorce now becomes a sensation in the world as some of couples’ way out from marital differences and issues are legal separation. Added to that, the marital connubial problem comes from both parties’ unwillingness to forgive and forget. To steer clear of fallacies and mistaken beliefs in forgiving a partner, here are the following lists of things married couples should do to let off marital issues, shun the idea of divorce, save the relationship and start anew:

When you forgive, you forget. The idea is indeed disheartening; you cannot easily forget a cheating husband/wife. This is a fact however, if your partner ask for another chance to prove his/her intentions, who are you not to give such pardon? Thus, when you say, "I forgive you", this line should be verbalized without a pain in the heart. What you speak of should mirror what your heart feels.
When you forgive, you build trust once more. Again, the idea of trusting a person who makes a fool out of you is hard, so difficult that it breaks your heart by just thinking about the deed your partner has committed. However, you cannot go on with this forever and you need to settle matters to rest to avoid divorce and give your partner the trust that has vanished the day he/she allows the offense to happen.
When you forgive, you give the relationship a fresh start. Forgiving means a whole new life for the both of you. It would not be easy to start life all over again yet; it will all be possible if both parties are seriously after in saving the marriage. You cannot wake up to a brand new day if your life is filled with cloudy and hazy outlook. Thus, a forgiving heart will be the only key to come to life and start all over again.A healthy relationship makes no room for remorse and hardhearted bearing. A heart who loves is a heart who knows how to say the words, "I forgive you; let’s start this one more time".

Choosing the Right School for Your Child’s Intellectual Development

The task of choosing the right or more over the perfect school for your children is not that easy as it may look. This decision can be overshadowed by many contributing and necessary factors. As a responsible parent, you should keep in mind that you send your children to school to acquire quality and best education as possible. You should pour beyond extra efforts to find and assess a school that can give your child quality education.

Quality education is difficult to define. These words leave a heavy impact on the intellectual development of your child. Quality education should enable your child to become a well-rounded human being in the future. In choosing the right school for your children, the decision must not come from you alone. You should learn to consult other people and especially your own children. Ask your children about what they expect and like from the school.

First-time school children - usually toddlers are much reluctant about the idea of going to school. As a parent you should guide them and encourage them to enter school. Instill in them that school is fun. They will be able to meet new friends and do exciting activities. It is but normal for a toddler to feel afraid going to school. But it is a must that you mould them to be courageous and independent. In the first days of school, you can still guide and stay with them throughout the day. But as time will pass by, get them used to being left in school. You should constantly remind your children that they have their teachers in school. And just like mum and dad, the teachers will stay with them until the end of the school day. More over, your child’s classmates can distract him or her from the anxiety of being left alone.

In choosing the right school to achieve quality education of your child, you should be reminded of the following factors:

1. The Vision- Mission of the School
2. Teachers and Administrators
3. Teaching Approaches
4. Facilities
5. Security
6. The Policies
7. The Involvement of Parents

You should be able to research on the school’s vision-mission. It should aim to enhance not only the intellectual or academic capabilities of your child. The school should mould your children into well-rounded individuals.

You must be aware of the school’s image about its teachers and administration in general. They must be well-educated, respectable, and competent most of all.

The methods of teaching must entail activities for the further development of your child in all aspects.

The school should possess sufficient learning facilities for the education of your children. Computers and books should be well-supplemented to maximize the skills of school children.

You should also feel secured about sending your child to school. The policies of the school should take full responsibility on any security measures to ensure your children’s safety.

The organization of Parent-Teacher Associations must be well initiated and programs should take effect for the welfare of the students.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behaviour therapy or CBT is a combination of cognitive as well as behaviour therapies. This therapy consists of two elements: cognitive and behaviour because the way we think is often a reflection of how we think about certain situations. In order to further understand this type of therapy, we need to discuss the 2 types of therapies namely behaviour therapy and cognitive therapy. Cognitive therapy involves the cognitive processes or our thoughts, attitudes, mental images etc. This therapy is based on how a certain manner of thinking can cause complications or health concerns. Some examples of these are depression, chronic anxiety and phobias not to mention related physical issues. The therapist tries to make the patient understand the patterns about their thoughts. The objective here is to determine which ideas are harmful or which are not and how harmful thoughts can be changed to a positive one. On the other hand, behaviour therapy is focused on modifying behaviours that are not beneficial. The techniques used in this therapy are varied. An example of behaviour therapy method is deep breathing, which is often used to calm a patient. Moving back to cognitive behaviour therapy, emphasis is given on behaviour therapy for the treatment of repetitive compulsive behaviour but for the treatment of depression, cognitive therapy is emphasized. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is often used for different conditions involving both physical as well as mental well-being. Phobias, depression, eating problems, anger, stress, drug abuse, sleeping problems as well as sexual issues and pain are often treated through CBT. Medical professionals believe that the more specific the concern is the better the chances that CBT can help resolve it. Depending on the problem and the severity, CBT may be used alone or with medications. The initial session of CBT is more on you and your therapist developing a common understanding of the issue. This is necessary to determine how your behaviour, ideas, feelings and thoughts impact your daily life. It is during this stage that you and your therapist will work on a treatment plan and agree on objectives. A session will last for an hour and is done at least once every week. CBT usually lasts for ten to fifteen weeks depending on the issue to be resolved and how complicated it is. Sometimes, CBT sessions are done over the phone. The victim must actively do his part and accomplish any assignment that is given during sessions or in between sessions. For example, if you have been diagnosed with social phobia, your therapist may ask you to write your thoughts on a diary particularly if you are growing anxious then later on you may asked to find and try ways on how you can cope with your anxiety. This is basically how Cognitive Behaviour Therapy works. It requires the active participation of both the patient and the therapist in order for this treatment resolve certain mental or physical conditions. Success cannot be guaranteed however CBT should work for various cases and positively help a patient.

Raising a Child with Strong Moral Values: A Practical Guide

For most parents, raising a good child is easier said than done. It involves a great deal of compassion and patience, not to mention that it takes a lot of effort to imbibe strong moral values to very young individuals.

When teaching kids how to behave in different situations, parents often confuse morality and manners. Lack of manners should not be equated with lack of morals. Morality and manners are two different concepts, even if they both mean treating others with respect. Morality is concerned with conforming to the rules of right conduct. On the other hand, manners are mainly concerned with socially acceptable behaviors - not necessarily with morally right or wrong conduct. For example, not saying “Please” when asking favors or “Thank you” to show appreciation may be a sign of disrespect. Although this behavior may show lack of manners, it is not a sin because it does not violate any rules of morally right conduct. That being said, parents must understand that generations also differ. Morality, as well as manners, changes over time. Any behavior considered inappropriate in the 1960s may be regarded as socially acceptable three decades later.
No person is born naturally good or bad. It is from the environment where children learn values and behaviors. Parents, siblings, teachers, and the media are influential in shaping children’s behavior. Children take their cues from their own experience, their conversations with parents and other adults about behavior, and watching how others behave. As kids grow and develop, they start to form their own moral values.
Raising your children to be moral and aware of what is right or wrong can start as early as the infancy period. Make it a point to tell your kids about feelings by conveying words that express emotions. Also, show empathy while talking to them. Make it clear to your kids that feelings are different from actions. Help them understand that though it is all right for them to feel whatever they are feeling (i.e., anger, pain, sorrow), they should be careful with their actions. For example, if your toddler is angry with his playmate, tell him it is okay to be angry, but he cannot hit his friend. Your children need your guidance on finding ways to resolve conflict other than violence. Talking with your children about the effects of their behavior on other people not only teaches them to be sensitive and compassionate, but also helps develop their social and emotional skills.

As a parent, you are the main role model for your children. Whatever behavior you display, your children assume you’re doing the right thing. So it is very important that you watch your own values and behavior. Do a self-check: Do you respect other people especially in the presence of your children? Do you always consider other people’s feelings? Being a good listener and an open-minded person is a good step for instilling moral values to your children. However, be wary of using humiliation or violence in teaching morality to your children. Aside from hurting them and causing childhood trauma, violence may be used by your children when dealing with anger or frustration toward their peers.

The Effect of Several Natures in the Intellectual Development of a Child

One big factor that directly affects the intellectual development of children is the environmental factor. The intellectual development of a child is nurtured and flourished by the things and aspects he or she often sees and learns from the environment. There are many types of environment wherein children could maximize their abilities to learn. Each of these learning environments is equipped with several accompanying co-contributors in the improvement of a child’s intellectual ability. More over, these learning grounds for children are not just subdued to cognitive or academic learning. Intellectual development must be considered as a holistic growth and progression on the child’s emotional, moral and intellectual factors all rolled into one.
The home is the foreground of a child’s learning. The child learns all of his or her firsts inside the house, with the guidance and perseverance of his or her parents. When we speak of home, this is not merely a place to dwell in. This must be a niche of all roots of learning. From the moment a child is introduced to the world through birth, parents should consistently monitor their child’s growth by teaching them the basic essentials for living. The home is where a child first learns how to walk, how to talk, and maximize his or her senses. The child must be progressively watched by the parents until he or she is able to identify things. While growing up, the child learns to observe scenarios happening inside the home. It is naturally healthy for a child to feel loved and see scenes inside the house that are harmonious and non-violent. A child growing inside a loving home can result to his or her further intellectual development.
The school is the next big factor that contributes to the completion of a child’s intellectual development. By the time a child is ready to enter school, he or she learns to become more and more slightly independent from her parents’ midst. He or she learns to decide minor matters on his or her own discretion. A child must be trained intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and cognitively inside the school through the help of competitive teachers. High School is the most crucial stage of distinction whether or not a teenager is learning. This age range is most likely the most radical in a growing child. During this stage, a child is often confronted with difficult situations having been influenced by many different characters such as his or her friends. The child’s activity can be greatly motivated by his or her friends rather than his or her parents. It is the role of parents, together with teachers to educate teenagers about choosing their friends wisely. Choosing appropriate friends can be a point wherein tough decisions are made by the child. He is furthermore challenged to discern what is good or harmful for him. His or her intellectual development grows into maturity if he or she often faces these circumstances.
The community is another contributing factor or nature for a child’s intellectual development. The society influences and implies all things that a child should see and learn. The media is a prominent tool for learning. It depends entirely on the child if he or she wants to learn from those all sorts of things shown by the media.

Social Phobia

It is a part of human nature to feel tensed, self-conscious or downright shy when we are in front of many people. Sweaty palms, a fluttering stomach as well as a pounding heart are all natural specially when talking in front of a large crowd, asking someone for a date, etc. Most people can deal with these situations however for the others the anxiety or shyness can be too much to handle it becomes unbearable. Every time someone feels tensed or shy, eye contact or chatting with others can be very difficult. As a result socialization becomes a challenge. Extreme shyness or being too self-conscious is a condition known as social phobia. Social phobia, which is also known as social anxiety, is categorized as a kind of anxiety issue. Too much shyness and self-consciousness may develop into an overwhelming fear resulting in discomfort whenever faced with other human interaction or social situations. For social phobia, there is no problem with family or a few friendly interactions however, meeting other people or speaking in a group can trigger extreme shyness, too much fear of embarrassment or self-consciousness which may all interfere with the victim’s life. Just like any other type of phobia, social phobia is about a fear reaction to something that is not really there or is not dangerous at all. This means the body is exhibiting fight-flight response like shallow breathing, faster heartbeat or sweating which are all caused by the adrenaline and other bodily chemicals to prepare someone for a fight or an escape. Such a reaction is triggered by the body’s defense mechanism particularly when we are scared. This is a natural response, which alerts someone to danger in order to protect himself however with social phobia this happens far too frequently and very strongly. Sometimes, the extreme reaction is not appropriate anymore for a certain situation and because of this treatment is also needed for this type of disorder. The treatment used for social phobia is no different from the treatment used for simple phobia and agoraphobia. Medications such as tranquilizers and anxiolytics are often used for the cure of most phobias including social phobia. Tricyclic, an antidepressant is also used for the treatment of social phobia patients but is usually prescribed in smaller doses. This drug is known to control panic attacks. For severe forms of anxiety other drugs such as benzodiazepines are used together with the Tricyclic to desensitize behavior. Another antidepressant drug such as Imipramine is meant to block panic attacks and so with Clomipramine but this drug is more potent for those suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There are known side effects associated with these drugs. There are other medications, which are used for the management of anxiety of people suffering from social phobia. The prescription of each drug will depend on the severity of the phobia. The Blessings of Parenthood in a Child’s Intellectual Development

Parenting is a very crucial and compelling aspect when it comes to the intellectual development of a child. Parenting might be a daunting task to undertake for some. But as an open-minded and an optimistic parent, we should strive and struggle hard in order to raise our children with all our purest efforts. Parenting is indeed the most rewarding obligation. More so, it is edifying and more fruitful if we come to see our children successful and well-regarded individuals in the future. Parents who have positive outlooks in life and good and meaningful disciplinary actions for their children most likely will succeed in this endeavour. Parents who are not mature enough and have a limited understanding on the joys and undertakings of parenthood, the result would be raising children like them. There are several types of parenting approaches, which are proven to be effective and sometimes wrong depending on many situations. Though each of them may differ in concepts, they share one and common aim- to raise children into successful and well- rounded individuals in the future.

A growing child superficially concludes that when his or her parents punish him or her for a mistake, he is not loved. During those tender ages, we parents are responsible in making them understand that punishment is not hatred. Disciplining them is expressing your desire to make them respectful. Violence on the other hand must not be tolerated inside the house. As a parent it is your responsibility to show your children a harmonious environment to live in. The intellectual development of the child starts at home with his or her parents’ intimate guidance. Child rearing is not merely a parental obligation. It must be instilled in parents that nurturing a child develops a child’s moral acts in the future. If violence is often seen inside the house, the child will most likely adopt the scenario in his or her adult life. At a young age, he or she was not educated about violence being a harmful ingredient in the intellectual and emotional growth.

Parents must initiate proper guidance. Monitoring your children’s behaviour must be properly implied. Set necessary rules inside the house if possible. And as much as possible, do not spoil your children. Giving them all what they want establishes poor intellectual growth for children. By the time you come to disappoint them by not giving what they ask for, they learn to implant hatred in their hearts. This is a very unhealthy start for their intellectual development as well. As a parent, learn to balance your approval on them. Do not let them get used of being favoured all the time. There must also be times that you turn them down in a good sense. In time, they will be able to understand the purpose of not giving all what they want.

On the other hand, manipulating your children’s decisions is not beneficial in their intellectual development at all. Most likely, children who have been barred from making their own decisions will become rebellious. Dictating what you know is best for them suppresses their intellectual and deciding prowess. Just let them decide on their own. You will just have to check closer on them from time to time. If you find something wrong, talk to them in a nice and fruitful way of discussion.

The Important Factors to Consider in the Intellectual Development of Children

The intellectual development and growth of a child depends on many contributing factors. These factors have to be properly laid out and be instilled in the growing consciousness of a child. A child is known to have the fragile and innocent mind that is often influenced by many aspects. There is no exact approach to maximize the intellectual development of a child. It relies entirely on the nature of child rearing and the educational background of the child.
At a tender age, children tend to mimic what they see around their environments. They tend to imitate adults and their characteristics. Children do not have yet the right discernment over what is true and wrong, what is appropriate or not, or what is the right decision from the wrong one. However, factors contributing to a child’s intellectual development can be actualized only if these matters are conceptualized with optimism and especially morality.
Morality is indeed an ultimate companion in raising a child’s intellectual development. The intellectual capabilities of children are heightened when they are introduced to the world of morality. Intelligence cannot be measured or influenced by books or theories alone. Intelligence must entail practicality on issues especially on decision-making. At an early age, a child just follows instructions from the parents. He does not have the ability to decide wisely over his or her acts. By the time that he can independently decide on his own and his parents still dictate what they want, intellectual development will definitely be stalled.
The role of parents is not to be dictatrixes of what they think is the best for their growing children. As a parent, it is really their obligation to steer them into the righteous path. But on the other hand, making them decide on their own is a plus factor in developing their intellectual capabilities. In line with morality, children being exposed in the sense of morality are more likely to make the right decisions in life. Morality teaches them to discern what is literally good from mistakes. Morality also creates and instills good values in them. Morality furthermore creates a fear for doing wrong and inappropriate acts.
Secondly, a child’s intellectual development is further flourished by free will and freedom as a moral obligation. Free will and freedom can be counterparts in some aspects. Freedom is the independence to do things pointing to a good decision or result. Free will is simply doing the things we desire. Freedom and free will must fuse together to form moral obligation. If people do the things that they like and they turn out to be good or positive, it is then an obligation to nourish them further. Apart from deciding on our own free will, moral obligation lets us weigh circumstances and all the profitable benefits we could achieve in making the right decisions. Using freedom and free will however, is not simply a matter of choice. It is more of a moral responsibility that upholds our values and holistic development.

When was the last time you ate tomatoes? Have you had some tomato ketchup lately? Those who are big fans of tomato and tomato products may find below some more reasons to keep tomato on top of their diet list.
A certain report states that tomato extracts can actually help lower or reduce blood pressure. Tomato extracts are said to contain a mix of antioxidants such as lycopene, beta-carotene, vitamin E and other phytonutrients, all considered potent. Lycopene is actually considered to be most the most effective among the natural carotenoids. Lycopene is defined as a bright red carotenoid pigment and is a phytochemical found in red fruits such as tomato. It is also said that lycopene in addition to the being the most effective carotenoid, is also the most common carotenoid in the human body. Lycopene prevents the oxidation of low density lipoprotein or LDL cholesterols, often termed as ‘bad’ cholesterol, which also reduces the risk of atherosclerosis and low blood pressure.
Aside from lowering blood pressure, tomato extracts have also been cited by certain sources as excellent materials or dietary supplements for reducing the accumulation of platelets. This is important since accumulation of platelets, although important for bodily functions such as clotting, could lead to heart attacks and strokes under certain conditions. For instance, tomato extracts have been shown to prevent thrombosis, which is a major cause of heart attack or stroke.
Another good news for those who regularly consume products with tomato extract is that it is shown to have properties that may help reduce cancer. For men, specifically, it my help prevent the occurrence of prostate cancer. It is said that the risk for prostate cancer may be lowered to as much as 30% for those who consume tomato products. This is, again, due to the lycopene content of tomato extract products which is though to observe oxygen-free radicals, thereby making the body less prone to cancer.
More recent developments include the tomato being studied as a potential source of vaccine against bird flu. However, the vaccine will be used for chickens instead of on humans. Other viral diseases for which tomato is being studied as a potential cure is HIV and hepatitis B. These tomatoes are said to be genetically modified ones, though. These vaccines are being developed so they can be taken orally. However, at this point, it seems that it is only at the stage where it is being tested in clinical trials. Aside from this, it may only be developed as a vaccine, aiding in preventive measures, but not really as a cure for the HIV or hepatitis B.
All in all, even if some of its healing properties are still being investigated at this point, there is no doubt that tomatoes still hold many wonderful properties that can help prevent or even cure certain conditions, especially those where the heart is concerned.
